How to Use a Pendulum

Pendulums are versatile tools used to tap into intuition, communicate with the higher self and to better understand the subconscious.  Pendulums have been around since ancient times by multiple cultures. They’ve been used for everything from divination to spirit communications and even healing rituals.  So what are they and how do they work?

A pendulum consists of a string or chain with a weight at one end that allows it to swing back and forth from a pivot point.  Pendulums are made from everything from wood to stone.  Most have a fob at the top of the chain that helps the user hold the pendulum securely.

Pendulums respond to energies by moving in different directions.  They are used to connect the user with the higher self for guidance.   A pendulum can help its user explore the deeper levels of the subconscious mind, enhance intuition and even promote healing by detecting the flow of energy in the subtle body.

Pendulums are a great way to help you connect with your intuition and higher self through “yes/no” type questions.

Programming a Pendulum

When you first use a pendulum; you’ll need to spend some time programming it.  Position yourself properly with feet flat on the floor and sitting up straight.  Grasp your pendulum by the fob and hold it securely between your thumb and forefinger.  Stabilize your arm and then let the pendulum dangle.

Hold your pendulum steady and ask it to show you “yes”, then “no” and “can’t answer”.  Your pendulum will swing back and forth for one answer, side to side for another and in a circle for the 3rd.  Once you have determined which direction corresponds to each answer, begin by asking questions you know the answer to.  This will help ensure that answers are consistent and you are reading your pendulum correctly.

Using a Pendulum

When you are ready to use your pendulum for guidance, take a few moments to clear and prepare your mind.  Make sure your environment is clear from noise and other distractions.

Grip your pendulum securely and set your intention.  For example “I call upon my higher self to answer these questions truthfully, according to my highest good”.  Next, ask very specific yes or no questions allowing time for the answer.  It’s important to not attach yourself to what you think the answer should be or what you want to hear, but to remain as neutral and detached from outcomes as possible.

When the pendulum swings take note of the direction for your answer.  If you are uncertain, you can try again later or rephrase the question for more clarity.  When you are finished with each question; clear the pendulum by touching it to the palm of your other hand.

Protect your pendulum when you aren’t using it.  Many pendulums are worn as necklaces.  Keeping it close to you allows it to absorb your energy and keeps you more in tune with it.  If you don’t want to wear it; keep it in a black velvet pouch and store it in a safe place.

Pendulums for Healing and Energy Work

You can also use your pendulum during meditations and energy work to help determine where your energy may be blocked, or even too open.  Try holding your pendulum over the chakra you are meditating on.  If it moves easily and smoothly; it means your energy is flowing as it should.  If it stops moving, moves inconsistently or you feel resistance; it means you may need to do more clearing and balancing of that chakra.

Pendulums are very versatile tools that are easy to learn.  They can be used successfully by anyone.
