Yogis have used them for years, and since the 1970s, the popularity of crystal singing bowls has only grown.
Crystal singing bowls are often used to facilitate meditation, various modes of holistic healing, and even as a supplement to mainstream medicine. And for whatever reason, crystal singing bowls have been hard to find in Winnipeg until now.
Radiance Gifts at 875 Corydon Ave now has a full selection and inventory of crystal singing bowls.
“We’ve been doing sound therapy for twelve years,” said Lisa Tjaden. “I believe we are the only crystal shop in Manitoba that has a certified sound healer on staff.”
Oddly enough, the crystal singing bowls used today are a by-product of Silicon Valley. They were first created by the computer industry to grow silicon which is used in micro-chips, and they are made from crushed quartz crystal heated to very high temperatures.
One reason why the pure tones vibrate our body is that it has a natural affinity to quartz. The pure tone of crystal bowls produces a vibrational sound field which resonates the light body. Quartz contains the full spectrum of light that is related to the seven energy centers or charkas and can heal the listener by bringing pure light through sound back into the human aura.
The process is not unlike making a wine glass sing by wetting the rim and running your finger around it to create a ringing note. Crystal bowls make a similar sound, but one that resonates longer, and is sustained with vibrations that fill a room.
“Our energy field is made up of hundreds of energy centers called chakras,” said Lisa Tjaden. “Each charka resonates at a specific tone and our crystal bowls can be tuned to match a specific charka. For example, a “C” bowl will resonate with your root charka or a “G#” resonates with your zeal chakra also known as the Soul Star chakra.
All of the crystal singing bowls at Radiance Gifts are tuned to 432hz. “Music that is tuned to 432 Hz is friendlier for the ears and unites a listener to the universal harmony and generates positive effects on mind and body,” said Shauna Sperry, the certified Sound Healer at Radiance Gifts. “In short, 432 hz music would fill the mind with a sense of peace and well being. Music that has been tuned to 432 hz releases emotional blockages and would benefit everyone.”
